I'm writing to you from the top of the world, people. You guessed right - The Hilton Newark Gateway. I just spent the evening with the lovely law students at Seton Hall. I came back to the hotel to find in my inbox a copy of the article that just ran in "The Docket" - The Paper of Record at the George Mason University School of Law. The article, by Associate Editor Cas Richardson, is entitled, "Barman Author Speaks to Packed House," and it details my recent visit. A quick excerpt from the article concerning the bar exam. I hope this is helpful:
“The bar is frustrating, it has little to do with law school, and it has nothing to do with practice. You might say to yourself, ‘What is going on?’ ‘Suck it up,’ I say. ‘That’s life. Get through with it and be done with it.’ Studying for the bar causes a lot of stress, but you should be able to withstand the pressure because your clients expect someone who is capable of handling the pressure,” said Wellen. Wellen stressed that passing the bar only requires getting about 55 percent of the test correct. “That’s an F! So be a genius and get a D!” Wellen urged. ... One final comment Wellen offered about the bar exam is not to let it define who you are. “People felt like taking and passing the bar exam was the key to happiness. It isn’t,” said Wellen.
For those who aren't in the know: The "Rocket Docket" is the nickname for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, known to be one of the fastest dockets for civil cases in the United States. It just so happens that George Mason is located in Virginia. Now do you get the irony of the heading "Rocket Docket?" Virginia? George Mason? The name of the newspaper is "The Docket"? Oh, forget it.
