Cooking the Books?
And you thought law students were cutthroat. How can some school administrators manipulate their U.S. News rankings? I spent the last six months investigating that very story for the New York Times. If you're interested in learning how some schools are able to inflate their national standings, you can find the story, The $8.78 Million Maneuver, in this Sunday's Education Life section. Prospective students looking for a more comprehensive look at any one particular law school may find the sidebar helpful, Where to Find the Whole Truth. What do you think of the games? Fair play or unethical? What's the solution? Who's at fault? I welcome your feedback below or by email. As always, thanks for reading.
Ok, I've listened to your audio link, you've become an entertainer. Fun to read, but not an act to follow.
On the other hand, you did have some interesting things to say, especially with the current topics (e.g. http://leiterlawschool.typepad.com/leiter/2005/08/what_law_school.html#comments ) and others.
BTW, like Letters from Law School, it appears that you've taken the "real" or more common perspective. Nicely done.

Hi, Alex Wellen!
Remember me? It's Carolyn Mitchell in Los Angeles. I was a great fan and promoter of BARMAN!
I hope that you are well! How is life in San Francisco?!? I read both of your articles in the NY Times when they first appeared! Good job! I still have your autographed copy of BARMAN. I hope to receive an autographed copy of LOVESICK soon! Take care! Enjoy the summer!
Fondly,
Carolyn Mitchell :)
P.S. Have you ever considered an article about lower-tiered schools' dismal bar passage rates and the cruel fact that they fail tons of students. Politics are also involved..... How sad!
